Mamiya C330 advancing problems

Hi,

Bought a c330 with 80mm a few months back. Ran 5 rolls through it, no problems. Then one fine day, I loaded a new roll, shot 2 frames consecutively, upon trying to advance the film, the lever just jammed up on me. It did not want to turn over.

I tried switching to 'multiple', didn't work. Tried to work the shutter a few times, didn't work. After 15 mins of cocking the lens and firing off the shutter and other stuff, the lever finally came loose---worked like a charm after that.

However, I was shooting a personal documentary project. I do not wish for that moment of helplessness to happen again.

Any ideas on what's the problem? Ways of rectifying it?

Did you check the shutter release lock button, it's on the right of the camera just above the shutter release button?

On a very old C3 I had a similar problem. I fixed it be removing the covering on the right side (crank side) and then the cover. The grease in there was so dried up that it did not allow the release paw to move on its own. Cleaning it and applying new grease cured it for the past 30 years.

+1 - my C330 has a shutter lock that is very easy to accidentally engage.

Switching to Multi will not affect the advance, just the shutter release interlock so that you can manually re-cock the shutter and use the normal release to trip it. The original C330 does not have a shutter lock - that came in with the C330f.

It could be a film transport problem - something stuck in the internal gears. The other possibility is that you mounted the lens such that it jammed the auto-cocking arm. That is not as likely, but that is why you should mount lenses cocked. It reduces the risk of a misalignment of the arms.

My original C330 has a little sliding red shutter release lock button. It is identified as item "4" on the "Nomenclature of Operating Parts" page in the manual.
