Mamiya C33 Light Seal Foam

Hi there,

I was just wondering what thickness should I choose when cutting light seal foam from the kits that you have to cut yourself? I have a choice between 2mm, 3mm or 4mm. I'm just wondering what would be best for a Mamiya C33 light seals, which are apart of the film back and don't go into the groove on the camera body itself.

I'm still a big fan of removing the light seal and painting the groove for it flat black, thereby creating a light trap. fewer parts; fewer chances of something failing. For flat surfaces without a groove use the thinnest foam available.

Very often it seems that the foam is as much dust seal as it is light seal. Ralph has a good point in some cases.

I removed all light seals on my 35mm Nikons by scraping out the foam from the grooves,cleaned them out and painted them flat black. as soon as the back is closed, the groove forms a perfect light trap and I never missed the sticky seals.
