Does anyone know the base thread size of the Mamiya C220?

This is where I get confused. 1/4" 20 is different to a standard 1/4" thread? I already have a quarter inch head but that doesn't fit.

I don't have my C220 with me, but I seem to recall that either my C330 or my C220 or both of them have a 3/8 tripod socket with a 1/4 tripod socket adapter threaded into it.

If your C220 is the same, possibly someone has done something with the adapter.

With nuts and bolts there are two measurements, one is the size, as in 1/4" and one is the thread count (as in-20). 20 means "twenty threads per inch" if the 1/4 you have is a different thread count such as 1/4-28 commonly called "fine threading", it wont fit, so while 1/4"-20 is very common, you need to know what the thread count is. Does the screw work in another camera? Almost all cameras are 1/4-20. A few are 3/8 or have a 3/8 with a 1/4-20 insert.

There is the possibility that your camera threads are damaged, but you should be able to see that. I don't know that Mamiya ever offered an oddball.

Looking at my Mamiyaflex, it's 1/4-20 only. That could have changed down the line tho.

My Mamiya C330 Fs are 3/8" B.S.W and came supplied with a screw in reducing adaptor that bushed them down to 1/4" B.S.W , as Matt King says, it sound like It's missing, you can buy the adaptors cheaply at most camera stores, and just screw them in with a coin, I hope this helps.

Camera threads were originally 1/4" Whitworth but the 1/4" Unified American thread is so similar that it fits fine. There is just a slight cutting angle difference between the two.

Steve.

1/4" Whitworth has 20 T.P.I and a pitch of 0.05", the same as U.A C thread, as Steve says it will fit fine. as far as I know most camera bases are still tapped 1/4" BSW, or am I behind the times again.

My C220 is the standard 1/4". I've been using it with the same tripod heads and QR plates as all my other cameras for 35+ years.

Looks like mine might be different. The same bolt fits another camera -- that I've always assumed had a 1/4" thread because it fitted a 1/4" head -- just not the Mamiya.

The threading on the Mamiya looks finer than the other.
