Ordered one and it arrived but I think the end bit is not long enough because it won't trip the shutter. Has anybody done long exposures (bulb) with this camera and gently tripped the shutter by hand and been successful?

If you are doing star trails or something like that where your exposure is really long it probably doesn't matter much but it's usually safer to use a cable release.

I own a Mamiya C220f and I use cloth Gepes. I like cloth cables with that camera because they bend easy and are not stiff like some other cables. With a C220 the way you mount the cable release has it sticking straight up in the air. The Gebr-Schreck that AGX recommends are said to be very high quality but I have never used them.
One dumb question. Do you have film in the camera? With a C220 you can trip the shutter at the lens but to trip the shutter with the camera shutter release you have to have film in the camera.
(there was a url link here which no longer exists), you might inquire at Schreck how far the pins of their cable releases protrude when activated. You then test at your camera with a plain pin, taking into account that threading too.
