mamiya c220 problem...

hey...

i got a mamiya c220 and for some reason when i use the 80 or 65mm lens at infinity focus (with bellows right up to the body), the shutter release lever that you push down won't go down all the way to fire the shutter and i have to do it manually from the lens shutter trigger. however, when i move out the bellows to focus at something closer than infinity, it fires off fine. it's not a big inconvenience but depreciates the value of the camera when it sells. if anyone has a solution, i'd love to hear it. thanks in advance.

Is the shutter release lock on the side of the body engaged? It is a little button that can easily slip into the lock position.

You have the lens-change baffle up. There is an interlock to prevent the shutter release operating, but it does not engage unless the bellows are mostly compressed. The C220 does not have a physical shutter lock.

no...it's more of a problem with the shutter release lever on the camera not being able to push down all the way when on infinity focus, but works fine with the 105 and 250mm lenses as they do not focus on anything when the bellows are set all the way back.
when i said before that this was a "minor" convenience, i have now discovered it is not as the film will not advance unless the shutter is cocked (if you just flip the switch on the lens, the camera cannot detect that a frame was taken with it, so the film will not advance).

In Single mode, you will only be able to make one exposure per frame. All the Mamiya twins have a quirk where a qentle pressure on the shutter release without tripping the shutter may trip the advance interlock. It varies between bodies and sometimes depends on the tension on the lens shutter release arm. Switching to Multi over-rides the film advance interlock, allowing the shutter to be retensioned and the body release to be used repeatedly.

When the lens panel is fully retracted, switching the side control to 'Unlock' will: raise the internal baffle to protect the film, lock the shutter release, and release the cam holding the lens retaining wire in the locked position. If the lens board is extended forward, the small metal finger that controls these functions does not engage.

The small slide control on the lens panel that physically locks the shutter release was introduced on later models than the C220.

hmmm...i doubt that is the issue. it's more the shaft that attaches from the camera to the shutter release button is warped. either way it's in the shop now so they will have to figure it out. thanks for all your help though guys. unless you were sitting here with me it's hard to describe the symptoms 100%.
