Mamiya 7 framelines stuck

I have a new to me Mamiya 7 with the 65mm, 80mm, and the 150mm. Regardless of which lens is mounted, the same framelines show in the viewfinder. Since I have little experience with the camera I don't know which frameline is shown. I only see one set.

Has anyone else seen this before? Is this easily repaired by me? If not, to whom should I send it?

I should say that the body seems to be in good shape. I have shot a test roll with it but that was with the 80mm only. I noticed this problem because I expected the 150mm to give tighter framing for doing portraits, but it did not within the viewfinder. When looking at the same scene through all the lenses, the same area is framed.

Thanks for any tips anyone my be able to provide. I am pretty bummed.

I've never had this happen before, but I can highly reccomend Bob at Precision Camera Works. If you call him he will know wether it's an easy fix or if you should just send it on in. He really knows his way around the Mamiya 7

Are you sure the framelines should move? It's not a Leica. I've had a 7ii with an 80 and 50 since new. I use the add on viewfinder for the 50.

They only work for the 65, 80, and 150mm lenses. All other lenses require the aux viewfinder.

how did the repair go? I have a different issue. The framlines move when i unount my 80mm lens, but when i remount the lens the frame lines turn faint, and nearly disapear. I can even see the 65mm and 80mm framelines at the same time but very poorly. I noticed that inside the camera mount housing there is a tiny black lever that interacts with a tab on the lens. When i move that lever, i can see the 65, 80, and 150 framelines perfectly.

It sounds like you have a similar problem to the one that I had. Bob was able to repair my 7 and also did the rangefinder upgrade. Highly recommended.

If you look at your lenses (assuming you have more than one), you will see that each lens causes the lever to move to a different position, which in turn selects the appropriate frame lines. I sounds like yours might need some adjusting based on your description.

Thanks for the quick reply! about how much did it all cost you, repair and upgrade. Also what is the upgrade?

It was $276 which included a CLA, upgrade, rangefinder adjustment, and return insured shipping.

As for the upgrade, see this thread:

I can tell you that it improved my ability to focus. The focus spot is much brighter and easier to see in dim light.

Ok thanks for the info. That seems reasonable. I traded a mamiya 645af for the mamiya 7, so i got a really good deal. Does he do anything to the meter? From what i hear the meter is whimsical at best.

Honestly I'm not sure on the meter. I haven't noticed any issues with the meter on my unit.
