Does the Mamiya 7 have a film plane marker or can I use something else? I have film in it now so I can't get a reference with the back open. I estimated the plane and focused on an object at minimum focus and the rangefinder didn't match so I don't know if it's off.

Wouldn't suggest going too literal with tape measurements and lens markings and such. What really matters is the relations between the rangefinder and the film plane image (ground glass on the plane). Until you get a chance to do a real test, the focus scale will just make you paranoid.... unless it is off by a huge amount?
