Hi all I’ve shot through about 10 rolls on a used mamiya 7. On the last 2 rolls I’ll get to around frame 3 and the film advance doesn’t stop. It will advance to frame 5 or 6 until it stops and I can take another photo. So I’m getting anywhere from 3 - 5 shots per roll. It happens at random and I don’t know if it has to do with film stock, the film spool, or just needs to be serviced. Most likely the latter but wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen.
Cheers
David

Welcome to APUG Photrio!!!

Your film back needs a CLA [Clean, Lubrication, and Adjustment] and probably so does the camera. I recommend that you send it out to have it done. Since you live in Los Angeles I would recommend Samy's Camera on Fairfax or Steve's Camera in Culver City to do the work. I have used both.

I believe you're thinking of a different camera , the 7 is a rangefinder with a simple rear film door , or that's what mine had  . Peter

Welcome to Photrio.
That does sound like a camera that at least needs maintenance service, if not a more serious repair.
And as they are such nice cameras.....

I would get your camera in for repair. Living in LA you should be able to talk to your technician face to face. Sirius Glass has given you a couple good options. Hopefully it just needs cleaning.

I've had frame spacing issues on a Fuji G617, a roller spring needed a bit of a tweak. This sounds more like what Sirius was getting at, something in the film transport is sticking. Needs a bit of solvent and a couple microliters of watch oil.

It probably just needs a CLA, cameras that use a roller to measure the film passage are prone to aging oil/grease causing the mechanisms to get stiff and not trigger properly when the film is advanced, or the roller rubber hardening and becoming slippery. There is not much force rotating that mechanism, so it has to stay well maintained.
