Mamiya 645 waist level finder issue

Hello all, I just picked up a waist level finder for my 1000s and the left side locking tab is not engaging the book on the body. I can move it by hand but it doesn't spring back when I release the button like the right side does. It's quite stiff feeling. Will I regret it if I try to open it up?
