Hi, just a quicky, I bought a 645 just today and they put a roll in for me but they forgot to align the start marks with each other and then did the autowinder to start. I think thats an issue, Im really not sure to be honest because I asked him and he said no you don't have to. Just don't want to waste a roll of portra . Thanks

Welcome to the world of Mamiya 645 .
My guess is that your first photo will be half on and half off the film, and there will be extra blank film at the end of your roll.
There might be a chance though that you won't actually get to the film part until the counter actually reads "2".
So to be safe, you may wish to save your important shots to the second or third frame.

thanks mate, I would have thought half the roll would be gone to be honest. He just barely put the roll on the take up spool though so I would have thought more would be missing.

When you load your first film yourself, you will find that the "Start" marks appear quite quickly after the backing paper is attached to the takeup spool and you start to turn that spool manually.
Do you have another insert that you can try it with?
And have you found the link to the manual for your camera?

These pages from Mike Butkus' excellent site have more useful links - I heartily recommend sending him his requested donation if you make use of his resource:

Thank you so much for these links. I have the manual but haven't read too much into it. Ill just go out and shoot for fun on this roll, I guess I always shoot for fun though.
