Hey y'all. I've got a pro TL with ae prism and the standard E focusing screen. Can I switch it out for an A matte? Should I? I don't always use a centered focal point and recomposing at shallow DoF is not always great. Is it just me? Thanks.

I have the Pro, not the Pro TL, but I believe the screens can be used on either body. I prefer the Matte A and replaced the stock screen on mine. I prefer it as the screen seems more "natural" to me.

Rob

Thanks Rob! I have heard that the A is brighter in low light than the stock screen -- was this your experience?

I really didn't notice an increase in brightness. I just find it easier to focus using the matte A. I doubt it would actually be brighter as that would change the exposure given by the metered prism, or at least I think it would. My assumption is that at least with the Pro the meter works off of the image on the focus screen. The TL may be different since I assume it used off-the-film metering for flash. Not sure how that system works.
