The pro-TL uses the same mount and metering/aperture connections as all of the previous M645 system cameras. The newer 645 AF and AF-D use the same mechanical mount but have electronics in the lenses for the autofocus. The new lenses will not work on the older cameras, but the old lenses do work on the AF cameras.
3 types? 3 lengths but I didn't know there are 3 types. The ones I have couple to the meter and work the aperture automatically. I think mine are called the auto extension tubes #1, #2, and #3.

By type I meant if there are extension tubes with different levels of information transmitted from lenses to camera body.
Just bought a auto #2 extension tube. I hope that it will make my 145SF to focus close enough for filling the frame with a babys face. I was little irritated yesterday as it didn't. I hate lenses that don't focus close enough.

This ring brings the lens further away from the film plane so that you now can focus to a much smaller distance than with just the lens. The automatic aperture mechanism and TTL metering with AE prism finder still works with the ring. Yes, you can do macro photos with it. I think that you can only use the Mamiya lenses in the range 80mm .. 150mm with the extension rings.
