I've been shooting film on my Mamiya 645 AFD II for some time now with great satisfaction.

Digital backs have been dropping in price fact, but I cannot, for the life of me, find any information about which generations of backs function on which generation of Mamiya 645 AFD's.

I'm hoping that some of that information is shared amongst users here and it might be possible to pool it together in this thread.

I know that film compatibility ended with the AFDIII/Phase One AF and that the DF and onward don't take film backs any more.

Which film compatible Mamiya 645 AFD cameras go with which Phase One and Leaf backs?

Here's the list from Phase One:
https://support.phaseone.com/knowledgebase/article/KA-01153/en-us

The older Leaf Aptus backs are not listed. Probably as they are from the time that Leaf was not part of Phase One. I think those also work with the AFDII. You can ask on the getdpi.com forum as well as there are more digital back users there than here.

Thanks. I've always found Phase One's website horrible to navigate. Looks like the best I can do would be a non-Phase One Leaf back if I do decide to add digital to this camera and want a full 645 image.

Much appreciate!

I know any P series phase one back will also work, as well as a Sinar emotion with the correct adapter. I have an IQ back + a AFD to try as well, I think that'll actually also work.

A bit late, just saw the date of the OP and last reply, but maybe this will help someone else in future with the same questions.

The ZD back works with the AFDII (that's what I have). The RAW files work fine with Silkypix.

I think some of the older backs need to be tethered, and may have specific cables and software.

I would also check whether any updates would be needed to firmware, as that might prove diffcult.

Phase One incidentally have a user forum and their technicians will do their best to help solve issues even with old unsupported kit.
