I'm looking to pick up a 645 AFD in the near future. I'd rather stick with the "D" so I have the option of adding a ****** back in the future.

Any advantage to picking up an AFD over a factory converted AF? Seems the "AF" versions that have been upgraded tend to go a little cheaper than the AFD's.

I got the AFD at a pretty good price with a lens and film back not too long ago. The option to use a digital back was one of the big thing for me to get the AFD. The other things were small tid-bits, like the AFD can turn of the AF assist light, the AF cannot when in AF-S mode. It would drive me nuts if the AF assist light was always going off. The AFD has an average meter, the AF only has center and spot.

here's a comparison chart off mamiya's website:

Basically unless you need a matrix meter and the option to shoot digital, save yourself a few hundred, get the AF and buy a 55mm or 150mm with the money you save.
