Hello - I recently acquired a Mamiya 6 Automat from Japan and took it out for the first time today. I noticed that it will not cock the shutter when the speed is set at 1/500 sec. All other speeds seem to work fine. I know the spring is a lot stronger at 1/500 and it seems that the arm that rotates to cock the shutter just can't quite make it at that speed. Once the film is advanced I can cock the shutter manually, but that kind of defeats the reason for having an "Automat". Any thoughts? I'm about to develop the first roll of film and see how they look.

Edit: Developed the roll and there is another problem apparently. The first 8 images are fine. The 9th image is only half a frame. It's like it stopped advancing or something. The remaining frames are badly overexposed, so badly that I can't even make out anything. Almost looks like multiple exposures, but I know I only shot 12 frames. I might run another roll through, just taking photos in the back yard, to see if it does the same thing. Major disappointment so far.

I only got my 6 recently and it doesn't have 1/500, but I know I've read (or seem to recall) that some of these have to be cocked before you set them at the highest speed. Or vice versa. Someone with more experience with these will be along shortly

My model is the "automat" which cocks the shutter as you advance the film. I can probably live with having to manually cock the shutter when using 1/500 but not if it is going to ruin the film. As I mentioned I am going to shoot one more roll of film at different shutter speeds and see what happens. Otherwise I will return it.
