Mamiya 330 filters

For my 330sI would like to get some filters... but the normal filters are a bit too thick to fit under the lens hood. In the manual original Mamiya filters are recommended because they are very thin.

I know there are filter manufacturers that produce very thin filters, but I don't know HOW thin they have to be to replace the extremely rare Mamiya filters.

Are there owners of original Mamiya filters in this forum? How thin are the filters?

my 330 filters work around

When I got my 330 (used) it came with an 80mm lens pair. This lens filter dameter is 46mm. It has a 46mm skylight filter on each one. It also came with a 46 to 49mm step ring, and a few 49mm filters.

I have since bought 65 and 180mm lens sets. These have 49mm filter threads.

I have home made a lens hood out of foam core board spray painted flat black, with a 49mm lens hole. The top hinged part extends over the viewing lens, and you fine tune the angle of the hinge to look 'through' the top of the hood. When I use this with the 80mm set I just fit the step ring to make the thing fit.

What some others have done is to glue a step-up ring (or just an empty filter ring) into their lens hood. Hood goes on camera, filter screws into hood.

I have the 80 and 135mm lenses, as well as the hood for those lenses. The hood clamps onto the outside of the filter or lens assembly (both being the same diameter). You can use any 46mm filter you like as long as it has the same O.D. as most do.
You cannot, unfortunately, use a step up ring with the standard hood.

I also have the 55mm lens and hood, and it worked the same way. Since 46mm filters caused vignetting, I did like suggested above- disassembled the hood, replaced the stock screws with longer ones, and attached a step up ring inside the hood to accept 67mm filters.

Other length lenses I'm not familiar with.
