Malefic 6x17

Hi!

A couple of photographs of my first roll ... 50%
I love this format althought as someone has said this is a film-eater
I read about this brand in this thread:

... and I was discouraged to find out any more about the camera
But I stumbled, hehe, with its official pool in flickr I had second thoughts so I decided to give it a chance ;-)
I love it.
I don't think that it lacks of robustness. The camera is very solid and well done. Perhaps the winding mechanism could be better but I'm overall quite impressed.
I purchased the cone to fit my Nikkor-SW 65/4. I guess that the best option for my tastes would be the 75mm but I haven't got that lens. The 65mm lens has a image circle of 170mm ... just to barely cover the 6x17 negative @f/16 at infinity.
Anyway, I've just loaded another HP5 ... I'm hungry of film, hahaha

These are really good, I was tempted by the 6x12 format, perhaps I'll have to revisit.

Looks good! These kinds of panoramic medium format cameras with red-window frame counting—either 3D printed like this one or the Chinese models—are really simple in design, so they are inexpensive, and there isn’t much that can go wrong as long as you pay attention to what you’re doing.

You are right: there are really easy to use and the results are pretty good !

Looks good Antonio. Look forwards to you working in portraiture with this camera.
I built my own 6x12 camera with a 90mm lens and love using the aspect ratio. 120mm is the limit of my enlarger and also I think is the limit of common print sizes, but if I had a bigger enlarger and oodles of money I would up the anti to 170mm.
6x 12 is awesome for portraits, twice as good a 6x6.

I also love 6x12 ... but I'm not sure if I'd manage to get a focused portrait with the help of the focus scale.

Delta 3200 and f32 or 22, just extend the lens as much as possible and everything close is in focus.

I had a 90mm f5.6 Super Angulon lens to put on a 6x17 but have found out from Malefic that this lens is too big for the camera and they have now amended the compatibility list.

I checked Malific's website the other day. The only thing they are doing now is providing do it your self soft ware if you have a 3D printer and want to build your own. I wrote to him and never got a response.

Steden Works in the US (Hudson Valley) has acquired the Malefic IP. Check the Malefic site for their statement. I will be watching to see what Steden comes up with. In the meantime I will be using my trusted old Holga 120 WPC. That camera + Acros 100 + Wratten Orange Gel filter & Elephant snot + FotometerV2 (on iPhone 8) has been extremely consistent. I wonder where I might post an image ....

I'm debating the Malific too.

I have a Shen Hao 6x17 view camera and love the images I get out of it, but I would like something like this to be a bit more...*AHEM*...portable.

The Malefic Triplet can shoot three frame sizes, 6x17, 6x12 and 6x9, just by switching a mask out between rolls of film and selecting a different witness hole in the back of the camera when winding on.

Reviving an old thread! I have a Malefic 6 x 17 that I bought about 2 years ago and have begun to try and use more frequently but find that the winding mechanism is very hard to turn. First off when loading a new roll the roll edge does not slide into the lower film slot and this causes binding and jamming. To solve this I remove the lens cone and make sure the paper roll is in the lower slot and then replace the lens cone before winding to 3. When winding to number 3 it is almost always tight and this happens throughout the whole of the roll. When the last exposure is made and I wind to the end of the roll it is also very tight to turn. What helps is turning both knobs at the same time but when reaching the end of the roll it is very hard to get the end on the take up spool. I use the half circle slip on gizmo on the take up spool and I have tried it with and without and for either option it is still hard to turn. Any experience/advice from other users very welcome.
