Hello...

I am wanting to make some home made photo bleach. Has anyone a recipe?

Also I have been given the following chemicals in crystal form, and am wondering what applications they may have

- Thiocarbanide

-Potassium Citrate

-Potassium Bromide

Also is there a good book that can be recommended regarding photographic chemistry ( for the non- scientist please)

My bleach is this:

Potassium Bromide 50g
Potassium ferricyanide 50g

Water to make a Liter.

This is a concentrated batch - dilute for more control...

A good book I've just picked up for next to nothing (less than £5 inc shipping) is "basic photo science" (1977) by Walls and Attridge. Good for the basic chemistry.

Thiocarbanide: sepia/brown toning, following bleach. Look for details with book or Google.
Potassium bromide: restrainer, used in most paper developers.

There are several types of bleach depending on what one wishes to do. For reducing negatives and prints there is Farmer's Reducer (potassium ferricyanide). For reversal processing there are bleaches based on potassium dichromate, potassium permanganate and ferric EDTA. For spotting prints there is Lugol's solution or tincture of iodine.
