I'm just wondering how many people actually make a living out doing purely black and white photography whether it's Landscape, Portrait, Wedding or some other branch of photography.

I've noticed that many of the folks who are actually busy making a living doing photography don't spend a whole lotta time hanging out on the 'net. Several I've met in the past few years hadn't even heard of APUG! :surprised:

I suspect there's a lot of truth in that.

Looks like a fair bit of colour work in there to me...

yeah ...
about 2/3 - 3/4 of it is black and white -
habs/haer documentations
- archival contact prints
4x5 film and 35mm enlargements.

sorry i misread your original post ...

Well, I'm glad I don't have to make a living from being a photographer, judging by the number of prints I've been able to sell in my life... I admire those that can do it, though. Seems like a tough way to go through it. I see it as supplemental income.
Good luck!

Where is APUG's Sales Gallery?

I've been thinking of offering some prints
for sale via APUG's sales gallery. After
searching today I could not find it.
Has it been dropped? Dan

i tried to make a income out of my own images once , many years ago.

decided id rather chew of my own foot.

i then decided to make my living from printing other peoples pictures using English photo magazines to advertise, that worked well but i had cut it a bit fine with my start up cash and ran out of money so moved to new zealand :0)

i then realized my true calling and that was to buy every discarded camera i could find and make them good again and resell them as a dealer

i started 4 years ago in new zealand, full time and made great money there, i then moved to amsterdam and started up the same business , buying out of one of the richest seams of photo gear i have ever seen.

it has had a great effect on my own photography due to having access to all the gear i need and i have a full large format darkroom in my house.
i am now once again advertising my commercial photo printing service to my camera customers.
printing all film material up to 5 x 7 inch negs .

i know that i wouldnt be taking pictures now if i hadnt gotten my screwdrivers out and started to bring all of those lovely old cameras back to life

i love photography not taking photos

I make my entire living from photography, but I have to admit it is 100% color now, a combination of film and digital. I shoot b/w almost exclusively for my personal art.
