What do some the rest of you think about all of this? When you change a model from her "raw" look, does it quit becoming fine art photography and change to Glamor photography? Perhaps that is all in the mind of the photographer.

Hi Dan,

I think this is a great question. I placed in a thread so that members can have a discussion about this.

Personally, I have taken FAN images (well, my version - not glamour) of models with none to heavy make up and props. I guess it depends on the image one is trying to capture. Light make up IMO, like Ian suggests won't do any harm for the most part.

Regards, Art.

I think it depends very much on what you're trying to accomplish - it could be to hide/minimize the appearance of a scar or blemish, or any feature that distracts from the final image you've envisioned. If the makeup has the end result of making the model appear like
- he/she just walked off the set of Miami Vice, Season Three
- a $30 hooker
- a cosmetics counter demonstration dummy
then it's probably NOT a fine art nude. Unless that's the look you're going for, to make a point about models in makeup.

I think it is ok to do what ever you want. I think any making rules for art takes away from the art. If you have a bunch of rules to follow then it becomes craft. Personally I would never ask a model to make up or shave anything. But then I hate glamour nudes.
