I have an old Magnasight with the silver ring at the eyepiece and it appears to have low magnification, probably 4x.

I see Magnasights on the auction sites that are listed as 8X and some at 10X magnification. These have a black ring at the eyepiece.

Can anyone ID the different models and how to distinguish between them?

Thanks!

Just a quick update:

Corresponded with Lisa at Bestwell and the metal silver eyepiece ring Magna Sight units are around 40 years old and quite well made. There was also a plastic silver ring unit which came later and was an 8x magnifier and then the present black eyepiece ring models which are also 8x.

If you can see grain clearly, your Magnasight is doing its job regardless of age or model. I have one and it has been an excellent tool.

If you can see angels dancing on the head of a pin, you need to reconsider the amount of falling down water you're consuming in the darkroom. :0
