I've taken this book to bed more nights than one to read and look at the marvelous photos of Margaret Bourke-White. This was one helluva woman, IMO. Plenty of grit, well educated, great looker and bent on getting the story if it meant going out on a 61 story high ledge or going into the hog pens or the smelly death of a concentration camp. She had no peers for sheer audacity and determination. Quite a gal and one of the four original photographers for Life magazine.

It was a shame she succumbed to Parkinson's Disease so early as it took here at age 65. This is an excellent book and well recommended. You can find them in pretty good shape on ebay as well.

I'm a big fan of hers and have been for many years, her friends called her Peggy, not Maggie.

Peggy from Margaret? I fail to see a connection. I can see Maggie from Margaret(that's what Henry Luce, honcho of Life magazine) called her in one of the books I have. Either way she was a tremendous woman and superb photographer.

Peggy is an often used diminutive of the name Margaret both in your country and mine, I have a sister in law we call Peggy who was christened Margaret Jane.

Interesting, I didn't know that. That explains why I saw a photo of her on a WWII plane dedicated to her with the name 'Peggy" on it. That didn't make sense when I saw it and I thought they just got the name confused. I learned something today.
