M39 enlarging lens retaining rings / jam nuts / flanges are hard enough to find on ebay that I have thought that an M39 to M42 lens adapter might work--Not necessarily well, but "adequately".

They aren't expensive, but has anyone tried using one as a retaining ring? (I don't need anymore stuff in my "junk" drawer).

I have two lower priced El Nikor Lenses I want to sell locally.
If I could actually buy the ring for $10, I'd consider it. but that $10 ring is about $20 by the time it's out the door.
If it was for a lens I plan to keep, it would be economic. But I don't and it's not.
They're decent lenses, but with a retaining ring, they are probably worth $30 each, tops.

These retaining rings are fairly simple parts. Any lathe enthusiast should be able to make such for some money for his hobby.

I've talked with a guy who sells Chinese accessories .like battery holders for the Vivitar 283 flash, eye cups for various cameras. This would be a piece that would be adequate in plastic and should sell inexpensively by the gross. Unfortunately, his supplier isn't interested in adding new stuff to his inventory right now. If the board is bored correctly the 39 to 42mm adapter should work fine.
