M1 iMac

Yesterday, I traded in my 27" Intel iMac on the latest 24" M1 iMac and wanted to pass on a few things. The top of the line iMac now has two Thunderbolt ports and two USB-C ports in the back plus a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the side plus an ethernet on the power block. When I scan my negatives, I'm using a Sony A7II which leaves the choice of either tether or my preferred method of removing the card. Since Sony never releases any firmware updates, and I don't really want to buy a A7IV for scanning negatives, my wireless options are limited. As part of trading in the old iMac, I came home with a USB-C to SD card dongle and one for USB-C to USB-A. Apparently, if you plan on doing a lot of graphic work, the $2000 dollar (without monitor) Mac Studio has a variety of ports and even a SD card slot ON THE FRONT! I don't do enough scanning to justify moving up from the iMac and I also understand there are global considerations with the EU making USB-C the standard plus the move to more wireless options. Fortunately, I didn't have very many peripherals eliminating the need for a dock. It will be a fine computer and the next generation of iPhones will have USB-C charging ports. It is exceedingly thin and light and has a good screen. Hope this will be of interest and hopefully avoid a few surprises.
