I recently purchased this book by mistake, in a way. I only glanced at the cover long enough to see Feininger, and simply leafing through it for a few seconds, knew I had to have it for the price (I don't remember the exact price, but between the sale at the used book store and the coupon I had, it was probably around $10!).

Once home, I realized that it was not the Life magazine photographer: Andreas Feininger; but his father, much better known as an artist and illustrator.

Still, my initial reaction was spot on. Although many of the images can be considered "snapshots", his vision is close to what I am striving for, photographically. Recommended for fans of early 20th Century black and white that doesn't look like Ansel Adams.

Thanks for the links the images on the getty blog remind of rodchenko same dynamic look and image construction. There are some similarities to his paintings as well. Again thanks.
