I am waiting for a Lume Cube RGB GO panel this week and, having no used LED lights for general and closeup photography before this, I have to ask,"What are you're experiences with this brand/product?"

I'm an analog shooter in 99% of my work, and originally planned to use two mini LQ panels with the lens hood clips on my Hasselblad, with 80, 150 and 180 lenses, and extension tubes, but is this larger panel worthwhile for other work.

It'll do strobe in addition to always on, variable LEDS, according to specs.

But it does no have a sync cord port from what I can see, so, a mystery?

A light made out of LED's is thus a continuous light source.

What do you want to synchronize?

I don't have this light, but for such an LED light, "strobe" means it flashes repeatedly, so that you can get that 80s disco look. What most non-photographers call a "strobe light." Keep in mind these mini LED panels are marketed especially to video makers.

Eli, there are still no small lightsources concerning light output and pulse duration alternative to electronic- and incandescent-flash.

These things barely put out enough light to fill shadows. They’re good for cell phone and web cam lighting.

If you figure out how to use it for film let us know.

I have one I use for webcam fill light. Could be a fill light for my digital camera, but it is easier and more effective to use a flash. For analog I wouldn't think it would be of much use - but I haven't bothered trying.

Thank you all for reminding me what the word "strobe" actually refers to; a major brain fog on my part.

Like I've said, I hope to use this as a macro light, mostly, and on the Hasselblad, I've mounted Hasselblad, lens hood clip, so I believe I'll have enough light there and with my 35mm Canon FD belliws and, hopefully, a Hasselblad bellows set-up.

My regular lighting is, mainly, Vivitar 283 and 285 flash units and incandescent photo bulbs, so like I mentioned, LED light is new to me at this point and I'm glad I can chose light k values with this thing.

Any additional views and tips are welcomed, so feel free to speak up!

Godspeed and Cheers to all!

The light arrived a few minutes ago and I'm mostly pleased with what I got, though Amazon did no take the 15% Mother's Day discount offered by Lume Cube.

Overall, it's simply what I expected for close macro work, even at a powered down level, though, like all things analog photography, time, appatures and film speed will tell the tale.

I think that some portraits with the longer Hasselblad CM lenses, such as the 135, 150 and 180 will be possible, especially if I am doing ad hoc environmental work, from which I took a long break, after catching the Wuhan virus while doing just that work one February afternoon, up town at a local arcade, back in 2000.

The small size of this small flat panel leads itself as a good camera bag light, my tendencies are to over carry kit, and the Vivitar flash units and accessories are another bag entirely, though I am trying to lighten up, while carrying reflector, tripod and monopod.

I've always been a beast of burden to my own nerriotic quirks about 'being prepaired', bad physical conditioning non-withstanding.

This is the Lume Cube RGB Panel GO, and I suppose if it works out I may try adding available barn doors in this size, and perhaps a homemade snoot, but that'll be later on, if this does as I expect, a second Lume Cube light may just be in order, to 'fill out' my medium format day bag.

Cheers

Unless you're shooting fast film or on a tripod, that little light will probable prove to be pretty useless except as a fill.

Using a "fill" light is very often all that is needed, with a white card or matt black card in the out-of-sight opposite side or back scene.

This little light can 'fill' in yellow house light or daylight, with red, green, blue lights to play with, if you do no have or use modifying colour filters, aka, stage lights and monochromatic effects.

I'll post results as I test out this thing, but a trial walk about the house tells me it'll take care of what I think it should be able to handle.

This is how portable flash works as well.
