Hello there,

Can I have some first hand information about the Lubitel lens: Is is coated or not?

By Lubitel, I mean the original camera (no self-timer, no flash synchro) made in the late 40-early 50, not the Lubitel 2 or the Lubitel 166 series.

Thanks!

If you have one, you should be able to see the color shift in reflections from the lens surfaces. Uncoated lenses generally give a pretty color-true reflection; coatings alter this (old coatings, from before about 1970, are usually bluish, newer ones might give a green or gold or even occasionally red tint to the reflection -- though I've only seen the latter on binoculars and rifle scopes).

Can't be sure, it was a long time ago, but the first MF camera I had was a Lubital, and I believe the lens was coated, for the price it wasn't bad, took some nice photo's, and somewhere I have a few of the negative's from it

Donald, my question is not about identifying a coated lens but to hear from owners experience.

Robert, I know for a fact that Lubi-2 and newer models have a coated lens. But I am not sure for the original Lubi...

Early coated USSR lenses had red letter П - P on the front of the lens face, not sure for Lubitel?
That's not all coating, I don't think. To my knowledge that's a specific type and quality of coating. I know all Industar 26m for LTM was coated, but there are ones with red P and ones without, and the red P ones are said to have better coating.
