All,
I am anally retentive. I clean up my camera after every outting. Up to this point, I am very careful to clean everything BUT the greased areas on my camera (Sinar F2). However, today it seems that the grease has collected enough gunk to warrant removing. Suggestions for replacement grease ?
The stuff currently on there doesn't look like anything special, just a light grease (not molly, etc).

I think that a small amount of good non-separating fully synthetic grease will do - after the old one is removed with a cloth slightly moistened with lighter fluid. Why not using some molly, BTW? I am using a molybden grease made by Spinco for ultracentrifuges (Spinkote), and it works perfectly

Thanks for the quick reply. The reason why I wish to shy away from molly (high pressure stuff anyway), is because I don't want my camera case smelling like a CV joint .

Ewwww, my Spinkote grease probably costs a fortune - you see, it was designed to stay in place even on 100000 RPMs and in high vacuum... maybe that's why it doesn't smell at all Fortunately enough, a large stock of this grease came once with $300K centrifuge - for free, as a part of service kit

I usually use a little light lithium grease for such things.

Go to your local model railroad shop. They carry a wide variety of excellent light oils and greases. I only use a very light coat of moly grease on my Sinar. I use a heavier one on my flatbed tracks.

An Update....

All,
The closest, easiest to find, type of lubricant that most closely matches the Sinar stuff is the grease used on Garage Doors. It has the same color, look, and viscosity; plus there's no odor. NOT the white lith grease that they recomend to use on the automatic door openers (although Im sure it would work, just leave white smudges everywhere), its the stuff used in the wheel tracks.
