AHOY……. Chemists

I have been using LPD powder paper developer for a few years and have been quite happy, till today.

I mixed a new batch of Stock yesterday and decanted it into two ½ gallon bottles. Today when I went to dilute it (1+2) working strength, it was a dark brown. I forged ahead and it did the job it seems, maybe a bet slower development time but the results were good.

It used to be working strength was nearly clear with a hint of color and when it got this dark in a tray it was time to discard.

The packaging was intact but it was the “new” plastic foil material and not the tin can it has been for years now.

I will get the liquid next time and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you for any insights....

To be fair to LPD should the thread title not be a little more equivocal? It would seem from what you say that it may have exhibited some different characteristics from what you have seen but it hasn't actually failed at this point

As we cannot get this stuff in the U.K. I have no axe to grind either way. It just seems that more circumspection may be warranted at this stage

Have been using this for=years. And it is strange that each package seems to be a bit different shade of brown but it always works
We use 1:4 no problems

However, the+liquid version is almost clear. Who knows always a mystery

Don't know... I recently did some stock solution from pouch container and did not notice anything unusual. I used it several times and it starts to season (from pale yellow to brownish color now).

Do you use tap water to dilute?

Yes, tap water. I gonna bet that is where the problem lies. I remember thinking at the time whether to use the distilled I have or tap water. I used the tap water.
Thanks

Bruce, I bought a one gallon packet a couple of years ago, mixed in distilled water it turned brown nearly immediately, and was worthless. It was replaced with another pack from the vendor and that one turned medium tea colored with distilled water. The newer packet works fine.
