I've been using the scanner for a while with good results. A few days ago I started to get all my scans out of focus and I didn't know what was causing this. Today I found there is a small rectangular piece of glass loose at the bottom of the scanner.
I saw a post in the a flickr group with the exact same problem. Anyone knows how to fix this? Where this piece of glass belongs?
I cannot help with the original post but I would like to open my V500 so that I can clean the inside of the glass plate. It has accrued a sort of misty film since I have it and the contrast is almost certainly affected.
It may be killing two problems with one good answer.
Here in Argentina Epson Technical Support what to do.
I sent a mail to USA Epson Technical Support and they told me that we have to talk by phone to assist me. I can't call to USA.
Maybe you John can make a call in UK? If you do please ask them how to open the scanner and where I have to put that piece of glass :/
Here is a photo of the scanner.
The exploded diagrams for both scanners are available here. This should help you disassemble the scanner and then try to trace where the loose part belongs.
