Looking for some info and help valuing a Canon 5cm 3.5 serenar lens.

I have a Canon 5cm 3.5 Serenar serial number 9870 and I was wondering if anyone possessed the wisdom to know when it was made and what a verison 1 (it is my understanding that two versions of the Canon labeled 5cm 3.5 serenar were made) with mint/good optics is very roughly worth? I can't locate any Ebay prices for a lens like this just yet.

That is a type 4 according to Kitchangman, about 4500 made, between 10/47 and 3/49.

I paid $200 for one in similar condition last year. The Type 4 is the first marked with "Canon".

By any chance would you know hot to disassemble a lens like this?

I've taken apart 3 of these over the last 20 years, the last one about 18 months ago.

You think I'd photograph it up...

It is an easy job BUT you need to have some rubber cork style tools.


Very similar to the Industar 50 EXCEPT no spanner slots. I use "Hollow Rubber Corks" that are used to pass wiring harnesses out of project boxes.


You can see my typical selection on the above repair thread. The little green rubber cork is what I used for the Canon.
