I'm looking for a Kodak Aero Ektar 178mm f/2.5 retaining ring. I checked with JoLo and Grimes and they want $145. and up. I just need a 77mm threaded ring. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

How about a 77mm-82mm step-up ring (or is it an 82mm-77mm step-down?).

I'm pretty sure a filter ring wont be strong enough to hold a lens that size. I need a threaded retaining ring or a threaded flange.

If it will clear your light trap, the heavy rubber gasket used between the tank and bowl of a toilet will securely hold a 178 Aero Ektar on a lensboard.
Don't ask me how I know this.
