After a three year search I have discovered that my mystery flash is the portable model of the Electroflash, techincally called the Model R-1140.
I'm now looking for photos/ literature of the beast in its glory days, particulalry the 11 pound battery case, as mine is missing.
Is anybody here experienced enough to remember / survive using these 2500vdc widow makers? any chance somebody might still have one in a closet?
