I recently joined after watching for a year or so. Long time member of Photo.net and Rangefinder Forum. I recently got back into 4x5 after a 50 year hiatus. I recently acquired a Speed Graphic, Linhof Technika and a 4x5 enlarger. Black and white only. I have been using 35 and 6x7 most of my life, but am now enjoying the challenges of 4x5. I have found some good information on this site. Thanks for the helpful information.
Welcome aboard Mark/@Logical1! We're happy to have you.
Large format is 'something else', as they say. On the one hand, it's as archaic as it comes - a box with film on one end and glass on the other. On the other hand, it's the most sophisticated way of working at the same time. And nothing beats a negative that you can relate to in an entirely different way than the much smaller formats. Enjoy!
I suspect that very few photographers started out with large format gear. I started out with 126, then 35mm, then 6x7, then 4x5 -- then 16mm, and then Minox. Who knows, the same sort of thing might happen to you.
