Looking for info. on Ontario's Lk. Huron and North Channel Shore Areas

In August, my wife and I will be heading north (Michigan) for two weeks. The first week will be at a cottage on Lake Gogebic in the western U.P. The second we will travel east and plan to cross into Canada at the Soo. I was wondering of anyone can tell me some nice scenic areas either along the North Channel or the east shore of Lake Huron. We plan to drive down the lake, eventually to Windsor to cross back and return to Ann Arbor. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We tend to prefer the "less traveled" to the touristy places.

I taught in Blind River back in the '80s. The waterfront is beautiful, as are the roads... "highways" that snake between the lakes north of town. There are some long abandoned homes on hwy 17 along the Missisaugi River between Iron Bridge and Blind River that are a great photo subject.
When you make it back to Windsor, stop awhile and get the Canadian view of Detroit. It is especially captivating at night across the Detroit River.
It is a beautiful area that calls me back every couple of years.

An interesting side trip might be to go north on 129 from Thessalon. A large waterfall (Aubrey Falls) is about 85 km north of Thessalon. Much of the area on the way is quite rugged and picturesque. North of the falls it starts to flatten out and is less interesting. The falls is next to an even larger power dam, so the amount of water going over the falls depends on power needs in Toronto.

He was referring to Porcupine Mountains State Park, a short distance north of Lake Gogebic. Lots of wilderness and photo ops. There you can get out and walk...a lot!

Ha, wasn't even thinking Michigan since I was really focused on Ontario info. We go to Lake Gogebic just about every summer. I'm quite familiar with 'those' Porkies and Lake-In-The-Clouds. You are correct, many ops up there, including many falls. Generally though, the falls are not all that interesting in late summer due to low water, but we have had a very wet spring and start to summer here and I'm hoping up north as well.
