Looking For Info/Manual on Beseler 67S2

I have a Beseler 67S2 that looks like it was mounted on a 23c chassis. Can't really verify because I have found not one shred info on the 67S2. Any help including where to get a manual would be greatly appreciated.

Got it on my agenda. Hopefully after next week I will have everything I need except chemicals and paper to start developing and printing. Pretty excited about it. Also bought the Ansel Adams series...they are a big help and I enjoy reading them.

I've had a few dealings with KHB and they have always been great to work with. Highly recommended.

By the way, I had a Beseler 67 with color head back in the 1980s, and it was on the 23C upright structure. I don't remember the model number, but it sounds just like yours. It's a nice enlarger.

I believe that was sort of their "heavy duty" version of the 67c (but why wouldn't someone just get the 23C seems like the bigger question?)

The single-post 67C is a decent enlarger for the space-challenged though, I had excellent results up to 16x20 with it.

I believe that the double post frame replaced the single, massive girder at the same time that the less expensive, thinner single post Printmaker's came on line.
I see that they now have a medium sized single girder option.

I am looking forward to using it. I didn't realize it was a color head until I started this thread.


I'm surprised that there is no model and serial number tag. You think that would be manufacturing 101.

Beseler's a little odd about that - when they upgraded the 4x5 MX to MXT, it was just a replacement lens stage, and they never made a new sticker for the frame, so they all seem to say "MX". On my 67c, it was slikscreened on the side of the condenser head.

BTW, the 67c could take that same color head, it just slid on with two mounting knobs. If the lens stage is the same, I was able to pin-register mine for masking. They didn't make a glass carrier for that model but I ghetto'd one up as well.

It's not the most alignable enlarger out there, but I made a DIY Besalign lens board for it and got perfect prints - biggest I went to was about 18x27. If you look at photos of a Besalign board and own a drill press, they're easy to make - you need a drill bit and tap for like an M6 screw, and three screws with thumbscrew-style ends. Those are tiny boards so it's a tight fit but can be done and 100% worth it for larger prints - even 11x14 might benefit.

Also, the Printmaker 35 lens boards and neg carriers were the same for my 67c. I've since passed it on to a kid and got the big 45, but it did good work.

Why not just go to a 23C?? Pricing, availability, etc. All the usual reasons for choosing one thing over another.

At the time, the availability of used enlargers wasn't as much as it is today.

It gives you the ability to adjust the alignment of the lens, in order to make sure it aligns with the negative and the baseboard.
Unlike some other enlargers, the Beseler 67 series don't incorporate alignment controls for the lens.

IIRC, it has 2 screws to align the lens stage, but the alignment is very minimal. the Besalign style boards make it quick to do, with no tools.

Even on the 45 with the updated lens stage, there's barely any alignment possible. You can easily make an alignable board with a drill & tap, a hole saw, and 2 lens boards - and a mousepad, scrap of yoga mat, or thick foam. It really is a massive improvement for tuning up when doing larger prints.
