Hi,

I am looking for som 3D CAD files for a camera similar to the Hobo camera or the Photoman 8x10. I have acces to a Rapid Prototyping machine that can output i ABS plastic. It could also be a CAM file or at least some drawings with measurements, that can easily be entered into a CAD program. I am not experienced in making cameras and I am not doing this in order start a production. I just would like to have such a camera.

Best regards
Mikkel

Hello.

I can't help you with CAD files but have a look at this site: http://www.raymentkirbycameras.co.uk/

for some good ideas.

I have built one fairly crude 5x4 camera and have plans to make a folding 5x4 and 8x10 in the future.

I have use of an Excellon CNC drill/router which is intended for printed circuit board production which I use to make some parts.

I write my CNC programs the long way by drawing the part in 2D CAD, hand writing all of the co-ordinates then typing them in.

Work plans

Is there any online resources for a 8x10 camera with exact mesurements. The Hobo camera they sell at Bostick and Sullivan seems very simple and the Photoman seems also very simple except for the assembly parts for different lenses. The camera I would like to make would only need to have one lens that will cover the entire image. Any suggestions on what to include in the camera design ?

I'm looking for plans for a Hobo style 8x10 or photoman style camera as well. My 8x10 pinhole camera is great but these long exposures are killing me.

Falkenberg ,

I guess RP ABS could bend with camera , back and the lens weight. There were camera making books and a site with drawings but I cant remember who did it.

If you access to machine park , route your expensive marine playwoods . Google the earth and you will find. And I dont think ABS will be precision if your machine do not worth few millions.

Thick ABS will take days to complete and no one gives you that free access.

Clifford ,

If pinhole makes you nervous , trying to build a 810 will make you more nervous. Without proper machinery and skill , it could cause a headache.

Follow classifieds and buy your camera from there. Some whisper bad reports at some transactions but If you be cautius , you will have the camera.

If you want to follow clean path , you can order your camera body from a laser or water cutter but it is really difficult.

Best ,

The only tricky measurement is the lens to film distance.

And that is usually adjustable.

A large format camera does not need to be the precision instrument some people think it should be.
