Hi all

I use to work with old paper such as Ilfomar and old Galerie Fb Mat. But I try to find nowdays paper with same surface.

I give a try to Foma paper , but the mat paper is more glossy than my Ilfomar semi matt and even my old guilleminot semi glossy . So if some one know a similar surface than this old paper, feel free to keep me inform.

The only matt surface I have experience of is Ilford Satin in RC. It is the most matt in the Ilford range of Glossy, Pearl and Satin.

I always think of Satin as having quite a gloss surface probably because I think of the material called satin. In many ways I think Ilford does not do itself any favours in using the word Satin to describe it. I think it is very matt. Usually an Ilford stockist will have samples of all three surfaces and I would ask to see them if I were you.

No amount of descriptions in a forum will really help. My matt may not be what you want in matt.

semi matte

Christian-you might be able to find some of the left over Forte Semi Matte paper at B+h in NYC. this is a great graded paper with a slight warm tone. they had some left a while back. I tried the Emaks VC matte paper which printed perfectly
to a grade 3 with my acros 120 negs and a cold light(no filter) and was very nice. Also have tried the Slavich graded matte paper. it is not warm toned but could probably be pushed in that direction with some bromide. this is a wonderful paper and is available in single weight from Freestyle in LA or maybe Retro in England. Good luck....
Best, Peter

I don't have much experience with matt papers, but the Ilford MGIV standard (not warm-tone) matt surface is like sandpaper to my eyes. It really has no gloss at all.

Hi Christian

I can only agree with Thomas. Ilford MG FB Matt is all that I use 99.999% of the time. Pure matt and as rough as sandpaper.

You mentioned Foma. Were you aware that Foma have a recent new paper out called Fomabrom Variant FB 112. Its nice stuff. Its called matt but some suppliers refer to it as semi matt. I would disagree with this as it is most certainly not as shiny as Ilford's semi matt. Infact, it is hard to tell it and Ilfords Matt paper apart. It is also on a white base.

Hope this helps

Stoo

P.S...If you P.M me your address I will drop you 10 sheets in the post.
