As the title reads, I'm looking for a good book on Bromoil techniques including the prospect of creating my own fiber print stock.

I saw some online gallery with some artists who focus on bromoil. I was very captivated by the artform. I want to do this. It seems from what little I've read, to be very supportive of the 35mm film size as well, which is all I have at the moment (give me some time.. I'm just getting my feet wet again after 25 year break..)

Anyhow, I briefly saw a book for sale on eBay entitled "Bromoil: A Foundation Course" by Derek Watkins. Is this a good book for a beginner who very rapidly picks up new techniques?

about the bromoil reading room. For sure these are old book but the bromoil formula don't change through the time. SO you 'll need to find information about modern paper which work ( BRom 240 from bergger is one of them). And many of these book have inforation on Bromoil even if some seems to talk about gumoil only.

Hi Gene

As you're around, just want a ask you a question before starting again doing some bromoil. I supposed that using mat semi mat paper is a better choice as they're not tanned. I want to give a try with some foma.

Another question is do you ever try doing a bromoil on a lithed paper???

Thanks

best regards

These are good leads you guys are sharing with me. Tell me something, I am one to always extrapolate the possibilities and I am curious to know is when you perform the transfer to another paper, what does that do to the original? Is all ink then wiped away leaving a white master so that you can re-ink and perform another transfer? Or is this process pretty much destroying the master each time?

Unfortunately Bergger Brom 240 has been discontinued. My current favorite paper for bromoil: Kentmere Fineprint VC fiberbase fine grain matte (semi matte). Good luck!

Gene your work is stupendous! I love that one of the bird flying above the camera eye, the house on the prairie, the kayaks on the pole at the beach, and the house on the coast the most. Can I ask you something.. how much do you wind up selling your works for? I'm hoping in the $1000's... Please tell me there is money/profit in this line of work! :D

This is a late reply, but you can reink and make another transfer or reink and keep the print as a regular bromoil. The emulsion will eventually blister after making 6 or 8 transfers and it will the then be unusable.
