I have been using a lot from Freestyle and I was wondering if there is a cheaper bulk source.

It all depends on volume. Personally, I don't go through that much so I generally stick with food-grade materials if possible, since they're generally easily available and affordable. In the dozens-hundreds of pounds/kilos bracket, it's a different story.

Yeah, some developers are that way. It also depends on how much developer you intend to mix, of course. I guess it helps to know if you're looking for quantities in the order of magnitude of one pound, 10lbs, 100lbs...

I mix liter at the time but it takes 75grams a liter.

Sodium Sulfite is used in swimming pool maintenance to reduce chlorine levels. You might try finding a local supplier and get a sample to see if it's of acceptable purity.

Yeah, that's comparable to XTOL-clones. I usually mix those only 150-500ml at a time, and intermittently so, and as a result, I've never looked further than easy food-grade supplies. A kilo still lasts me a substantial amount of time.

Sodium sulfite is heavy stuff, and as mentioned, a lot can get used up quickly depending on your formulas. Years ago, I bought 25 pounds which filled five 1-gallon milk jugs. It was very inexpensive to buy that way, and will last a long time.

ArtCraft.

I buy five pounds at a time, and this lasts me about a year. I don't trust (most) eBay sellers to be offering photo grade chemicals of acceptable quality. All kinds of questionable stuff gets dumped on eBay.

Mind you, ArtCraft does have an eBay page under the name "artcraftinny", offering some of the more commonly bought chemicals (but not Sodium sulfite).

Is purchasing direct from Photographers Formulary rather then thru Freestyle an option? 10 lbs for $35.

What food grade supplies do you use?

Not sure what you mean, but things like sulfite, metabisulfite, citric acid and vitamin C I obtain from regular consumer-oriented channels. Brewer's supplies stores, shops specializing in spices and food additives, drugstores etc.
