Cape Cod looks different in the winter and it isn't just traffic.
I went to Acadia in October one year and they were rolling up the sidewalks for the winter then. There would have to be some places open all winter, but check first if you plan on staying overnight. My friends and I were the last guests in a chain hotel before it closed for the winter. But it was gorgeous and would probably still have nice scenes even in the winter. You might need 4WD, though, if it gets snowy. Thanks for the suggestions! I have been so some of the closer places mentioned around MA such as Cape Anne. I will definitely head to Cape Cod a few times. Definitely a favorite place.
Anyone been up to Acadia National Park? That is one idea I had. Also thinking about going down to the DC Area.
You should be able to reach the airport by car from Boston -- I suggest New Zealand...it is the end of Spring there!
frank,
the OP never said he wanted to escape the ice and snow, he said he wanted a change of scene
and his usual scene is southern massachusetts and boston, from what i remember.
