I have a Canon PRO-1000 and would like to add canvas stock to my paper inventory. I plan on coating it and stretching it onto a frame. I think I can purchase a roll and cut it to size before printing if needed. The main problem I'm having is that most manufacturers are not showing images of the papers surface. So far I have been partial to Canson's Papers. They show the papers texture and it's looks to consistent to me. My father was an artist and when looking at his original paintings on canvas, it has a random pattern so I think I would like to try a paper like that. Also since I will be spraying a semi-mat coating on it, I'm wondering if I should pic a semigloss paper for better hold out and contrast.

Are you wanting to print it on a textured paper, like linen, or onto an actual canvas so you can stretch it onto a stretcher? Because if you stretch it after printing, you'll stretch the image, unless you use a transfer method. Printing directly onto a prestretched canvas requires special equipment. Plus, the print won't look as nice, because inkjets require special paper with a microporous surface to absorb the ink without letting the ink spread, thus making the image dull and blurry. That, and getting the canvas through the printer might be pretty difficult, depending on thickness and rigidity.

If you're just wanting the canvas look, then linen paper might be a better choice. It's basically just regular inkjet paper that's been embossed to look like a woven fabric. But it looks pretty convincing without getting right up on it.

Usually, the best course of action for something like this is to have a professional do it, who has all of the necessary and expensive equipment.

Have you looked at the options from red river paper? They offer actual canvas for inkjet in a Matte (https://www.redrivercatalog.com/browse/blanco-matte-inkjet-printable-canvas.html) or Satin (https://www.redrivercatalog.com/browse/blanco-satin-inkjet-printable-canvas.html). They also offer a paper with a canvas like texture if you decide to go that route (https://www.redrivercatalog.com/browse/60lb-paper-canvas-photo-matte-inkjet-paper.html). Sample kits are available (https://www.redrivercatalog.com/product/9980.html)

Thank you, I'll definitely get the sample kit. I have never tried their papers.
