A couple of years ago a friend gave me 50 rolls of Ilford HP5+ film in 220 size. It was long out-dated (1993) but had been stored frozen throughout its life. I finally got around to using a few rolls of the film and was really surprised to find out how well it held up. Compared to contempoary HP5+ the B+F was only about log 0.10 higher, and in all other respects the film performed as if factory fresh. It is really too bad that this fine film can no longer be produced in 220 size. My own experience with a number of out-dated Kodak films in this format, including TRI- 320 and PLUX-X, is that they did not hold up nearly so well as this HP5+ to age.

Good point for Ilford. I had some 120 HP-5+ frozen with an expiry date of 1999. Very little base fog and quite useable.

i have very good luck with old film.
the record is 31 year old plus x. speed was good. images perfect. i always shoot outdated E6 and have good luck back to 1998 ( i just have not had anything older)

I have been using up a stock of 1999 HP5 220 which works just fine. You might, though, want to give it half a stop overexposure or over development.

I however have a box of HP5 4x5 that is only a couple of years old and it gives me a film base + fog of almost .19!!! It seems to respond well but that's a little high.
