LomoChrome Metropolis 120 ISO 100400

Tested the LomoChrome Metropolis 120 ISO 100–400 Over The Weekend and I've yet to send these roll out for development. Will be sending these to Richard photo lab once again as they've been doing a good job on developing my images. The point here as many of you may or may not know, 3 years ago I picked up a Holga 120N and had several things 3D printed for the camera. The most expensive part of my outfit is the German made shutter release cable purchased from BH. The cable alone cost more than the camera and 3 rolls of 120 film.

It was our hopes to hit the Blue ridge parkway and even though it was late in the season, we opted to travel some of the back road or roads least traveled and ended up finding some unusual locations to use this film. This was the first time using the Lomochrome film and I don't know what to expect. According to the Lomo site, the film has a retro appearance to it, so I was hoping even with the lackluster remaining colors on the trees I may get some good images.

I'm finding that I'm growing more into or back into film photography because the digital camera i have isn't offering me that excitement of not knowing. Plus I'm shooting blind, meaning I'm not using any sort of range finder or view finder. Just set up and hope for the best. We should be able to send the 2 rolls of Lomo and 1 roll of expired Tri-X next week.

I like Lomo Metropolis. I find the higher you go in ISO, the more contrasty it gets. I prefer it at 100, but 400 isn't offensive, it's just different.

Where did you travel in the region? BRP and its sister, Skyline Drive, are some of my favorite haunts in Virginia. Years ago I did a solo bike trip from Mile 0 of the BRP all the way to Roanoke, about 120 miles away. It took me about 12-14 hours. It was a hilly and windy ride, but there was one hill that wasn't very steep, but it lasted for 8 miles with no break. That damn near broke my spirit. I just kept turning the pedals...

We drove from MD to PA via the Parkway.. sound odd, but that's how we travel. Our main goal was to explore one of the scenic drives of PA we've heard about and turns out it was a big disappointment. The section of the parkway we drove was blow Roanoke, detoured then picked it back up on the other side of Roanoke. Mind you we also drove through VA, WV, NC, TN just to get to PA. The route was completely made up wife is the navigator while I drive, rally style driving. We've only driven Skyline once and wasn't impressed. Seems the BRP is going the say way.. that section we drove south of Roanoke had serval overlook that weren't overlooks at all as the parkway foundation has not cut back the trees blocking the views. I believe we'll avoid that section in the future.



Barn at 12 Ridged Vineyard Nov 2022 it was a cold Nov afternoon on that day to get that shot of the barn. The vineyard allowed us behind the fenced in area to get this shot. but at least this is what one can expect to see with the Lomonchrome expect in color.

That is some beautiful countryside you drove through.

I agree that the scenic overlooks on Skyline aren't usually great. There are a few good ones, but the best views are in the mountains above at places like Hawksbill or Stony Man. Along the road, as you mentioned, they aren't kept clear enough for epic views.

As I was saying, In trips of the past I would take the Canon M6 typically shooting 40-50 images. But this last trip. I was shooting more with the Holga and ended up shooting only 9 images with the Canon M6. So this wife gave me an ultimatum. Saying if I'm not going to use the Canon anymore, she wants it. So last night I gave her the Canon M6. Now I'm strictly Holga 120N or I could go to a more advanced Medium format camera or even a large format. Who knows, I just know this Fri I'll be able to sending the 3 rolls of film to Richards photo lab.

It's official, The wife was thrilled that I gave her my Canon M6, 50mm & 100mm camera outfit. Now to search for my next purchase which will have to wait till the first of the year. Going to go with a better more advance 120mm camera outfit. Not sure I'll keep the Holga 120N but if anyone wants it, Post below and I'll consider the offer.

You know I've still not developed that film yet and I think I'll finally have a chance to do so in the next few weeks. But One reason I didn't develop that film and this was/is a big mistake. I thought about buying the Canon 85mm 1.4 lens and did just that and as I said that was a big mistake.. turns out the lens is entirely too heavy for me to carry around.. and Canon wont take the lens back. So I'll be selling the unused lens on the company market place as this site wont allow me to post anything in the classified area. Just one of those mistakes I've made in my lifetime thinking I could still use this heavier gear, when I can't this is one reason I gave up the Nikon system I had back in 2004. I'm going to have to resort to lighter camera and lenses or devote my time to the Holga 120n.

In other words, you may as well ban my account now.. if you find I'm at fault for pointing this out..

Richards lab just emailed me saying they have my three rolls of film going through the development stages. Hoping I'll get these back before Sept cause I want to see what the monochrome retro color 120 film looks like. Also set up a Lomography page just to keep tabs on the low-fi images posted there, with more to be added shortly.
