Lomo LC-W flash compatibility

Hey all,

I have my brand-new-to-me LC-W sitting here, just waiting on this important question:

Can old, legacy flashes be used safely on my LC-W?

Modern cameras (at least digital ones) always ship with warnings about attaching legacy flashes, which will damage the circuitry in modern cameras. I have a pile of film cameras, but nothing modern like this, and I was wondering if it's safe to use an old—in this case, a Vivitar—flash.

I'd assume it's safe, because the X sync hotshot is the same thing that's on my old Pentax ME Super, but I want to be sure, and I can't seem to find anything on the internet about it. The lack of "Warning!!!"s, and the legacy roots of the LC-A makes me think I'm safe... just don't know for certain.

Help?

If the flash sync circuit in the camera is a robust, mechanical circuit, then the (possible) high trigger voltage of the older flash won't harm it.

If the flash sync circuit in the camera is a relatively expensive, protected electronic circuit, then the (possible) high trigger voltage of the older flash won't harm it.

If the flash sync circuit in the camera is an inexpensive, unprotected electronic circuit, then the (possible) high trigger voltage of the older flash will harm it.

Unfortunately, I don't know a way of determining what kind of circuit it would contain, short of speaking with a Lomography engineer.

Or, indeed, someone with LC-W legacy flash experience...

I think if you pay 150 dollars to it , dont waste your investment and get a Diana flash.

The LC-Wide includes a standard hotshoe adaptor on the top to which we hooked up a Lomo Diana flash. It worked well, although we did find that the flash's hotshoe adaptor meant that it stuck out and obscured the shutter release button slightly, making it that bit harder to get a clear shot at the button without moving the camera.

I checked LOMO site and learned that there is fritz the blitz flash available with Diana Flash.

In Istanbul , LOMO site sell the camera for 450 dollars !!
