I guess a slide imprinter is sort of "Darkroom Equipment" right? I didn't see a better forum.

I picked up one of these cheap and am wondering if anyone has any info on it - manual, software, ribbon cross-reference, anything (it has no ribbon in it, drat.)

I tried emailing the US arm of Loersch and they seem to have gone away, as the domain name no longer works. I emailed the main place in Germany and we'll see if they even respond to me, but in the meantime I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks,
Duncan

Loersch Minityper

Hi Duncan

I had a couple of these machines when I ran Compix Photo Agency in Miami. When I allegedly retire a few years ago, I kept one machine for my own use and it's still humming right along.

It's a very good machine but can be temperamental. They seldom really break down. When they stop it's usually because of dust on the slide sensor. They were designed to be used with Loersch plastic mounts (the worst on the planet) and when you use paper mounts - which I did for 20 years - dust gets swept down the sensor hole in the track (underneath the black plastic square near the chute) and blocks the signal.

This problem was not helped by the idiot who wrote the software for these machines - a German guy whose knowledge of English could be written on a pinhead. Once you figure out what he's trying to say it's OK but at first it's a bit like trying to crack a safe.

The ribbons are a simple calculator ribbon and can be found almost anywhere - even Office Depot. Star Manufacturing (which made the entire print head assembly) makes them and the part number is: SF01B for Star DP8340, DP 832-834. Unicorn Ribbon also makes them: #GR24.

They cost about $1.25. Or you can get the same thing in a different box from Loersch for $16. They all come from China these days.

Anyway, if your still looking for help and have not chucked the machine in the dumpster in desperation, let me know. I'll be happy to help.

Hi Plettplett

I'm afraid that I couldn't part with it yet. I use it all the time 'cos I remount and reprint after I drum scan everything. If only I could find some other software to run it besides this junk from Loersch, life would be so much easier. After all these years, it still drives me crazy. I'd even settle for a Windows version of the Loersch software WITHOUT the "double strike" and extra large type glitch in it. But even Loersch doesn't seem to have ever had that. Even though they are no longer in the Minityper business, they were kind enough to send me their latest but it doesn't work any better than mine does. I remember 20 years ago there was a guy in New York who wrote his own program but I lost track of him long ago.

Cheers,

Alan

Hello Alan

Do you by any chance still have the software for the minityper?
My minityper came without software I emailed Loersch (new web site) but they never replied.
If you could send me a copy of the software I would be extremely grateful.

Finally I have a Quickpoint mounter system but no instructions have you ever seen one?

Do you have mounts for your Quickpoint machine John ?
I had to dump mine about three years ago when I finally ran out of mounts.

John S 😎

Yes I do have probably at least 1000 or more of the plastic glassless mounts. I must say I'm not impressed by the quality I also have some of the glass mounts as well bu not as many.

Regards
John

Well, to the customer, they were great quality mounts and projected perfectly fine, but to us mere technicians who on occasion had to open them up for printing ( dupes ) they were terrible - especially the sticky goo strip left on the film !

My machine ( before I had it ) was originally set up for glass mounts. When I stripped it down for it's initial clean and service, it had a lot of broken glass slivers inside.

After I set it up for 1.9mm glassless mounts, it worked very well ( generally ) but on rare occasions would jam ... and luckily never lost a film frame.

In contrast, the Gepe Quickslide machine I have now works flawlessly .... and surprise surprise, those mounts are about to run out ( forever ).

Never heard of the Gepe Quickslide mounter or mounts. Were the mounts different to the normal Gepe mounts?

Yes, it's a totally different design John. These ( type DS ) Gepe mounts are single piece ( white & grey halves welded together ) and have openable sides.
They can in fact go into the machine any way round ( horizontally ).

The mounter will cycle like this....

A mount already in receiving position will have one side held bent open.
1, a guillotine cuts the frame.
2, two ( soft plastic ) clamps grab and pull the film inside the mount ( into final position ) - and then release.
3, a metal sliding plate pushes a new mount into position - which pushes the mounted slide into a receiving box ( the mount's end will spring shut as it exits the mechanism ).
4, a claw will advance the film halfway into the new mount.
( start again at 1, )

The only operational adjustment is the frame line ( perforation position ).

John S 😎
