I'm looking to get in to wet plate collodion, ambrotypes in particular, and was wondering if anyone knew of a local source for chemicals, particularly the collodion and silver nitrate, in quantities suitable for a single person? A Vancouver or Vancouver Island source would be great but anywhere in province would help cut down on any potential hazmat shipping fees.

Try JD Photochem

I placed an order with Claire over the holidays, and her e-mail autoreplied that she would be in and out.

It isn't unusal for her to close for a few days while an otherwise public holiday is under way.

She has reasonable prices, and if you ask, will ship canada post parcel post.

I have never paid any sort of hazmat fee.

google jd photochem - they are outside of Montreal.
