Wellington is making cask ales-) None of that fizzy lager stuff. Might be too challenging for a Yankee :D

Is Niagara Falls Brewing still around? Old Jack and the stout

I miss the old Rotterdam on King and Portland
Discovered the place about 2 months before it shutdown and became Amsterdam (which left the corners of John and Richmond).
Still brew a decent beer though.
Basement bar with dark wood interior and poor lighting, boasting over 100 world beers on the menu. Quick humoured waitresess and a knowledgable barkeep.Ahhh the fine memories of the house Red on tap!
Guess I'll have to go back and do a re-sampling... Perhaps the GTA APUGers should meet there for a information gathering seminar... Some research for another APUG outing perhaps?

The laws in Ontario concerning the selling of anything alcohol (drinking alcohol that is) says that if you brew it in Ontario (perhaps Canada), you can sell it in your own store. Hence the popping up of wine stores in the grocery and "brew you own" shops. Also why you don't see beer for sale at the gas station. Ontario and Canada has had a long history of strange liquor laws.
A recent change in the law here too, is you may now bring your own unopened bottled wine to the restaurant instead of buying theirs. Not sure how many places actually applied for the permit.

There are only two places where you can buy beer (and/or liquor) in Ontario - Dead Link Removed and the Dead Link Removed

Art.

Some of the smaller villages have convenience stores selling under the LCBO banner.
I wish we could get past the the Victorian morals thing in Ontario and sell beer in the grocery stores. I'd love to be able to walk to the corner store on a hot day, buy a couple of cold quarts and walk home. That's how it's handled in Quebec and it's great!

cheers

That's okay for the big guys. But I bet it would put a strain on the smaller ones. I also bet the average small town corner store wasn't going to stock anything but the a few top selling labels. Fine for those of us in Toronto but the smaller the town the worse selection would get.

Ok here is a suggestion for an establishment that has a first rate beer list on tap of local craft brewers, my fav pub in the city: The Rebel House opposite the Rosedale Subway station. Where else you can get Neustadt 10W30 ale.

Biermarkt or The Beer Bistro will also stock Neustadt 10w30 ale. The latter (on King just east of Yonge) is a personal fave. A window right onto King East for shooting from as well.
