Polywarmtone = forte.
Re Kentmere: This might help. Here is a short extract from my new W.O.L.P. current papers chapter:
Kentmere: (UK) Available in Europe, UK, USA, Australia.
• Kentmere Kentona Glossy. Lith prints easily and well. Blacks may have unobtrusive texture, smooth mid and high tones. Recent changes, late ‘05: Possibly due to new raw materials (e.g. gelatine) being sourced, as the old suppliers exit the market, newer batches are lith printing less pink in tone in highly diluted lith, more an attractive salmon colour with more textured blacks. Lith processing has a way of revealing otherwise invisible differences.
• Kentmere Art Classic The same emulsion as Kentona, but on lightly textured warm tone cream based exhibition paper. While stocks last. Important pre-press news – see Footnote
• Kentmere Art Document Double weight non super-coated with a strongly textured parchment-like finish. It lith prints easily, giving warm sandy browns. While stocks last. Important pre-press news – see Footnote
• Kentmere Classic Matt (name to be confirmed). New product for 2006, using Kentona emulsion. Important pre-press news – see Footnote*
• Kentmere Art Matt (name to be confirmed). Planned new product for 2006, using Art Document emulsion. Important pre-press news – see Footnote*
• Kentmere Fineprint VC Finegrain Warmtone Lith prints to pleasing yellow-brown hues with cold blacks that exhibit a finer grain and texture in the blacks than Kentona. Note: Another Kentmere paper, Fineprint VC, shares the same emulsion as Fineprint VC Warmtone, but on a bright white glossy paper. However, it does not lith print. The surprising thing, given the emulsion recipe, is not that it doesn’t lith print, but rather that the warm tone version does. This is thought to be because of some effect from the warmtone pigment used, which is mixed into the emulsion rather than onto the paper. The cold version Fineprint VC does however respond well to bleach and lith redevelopment after first processing in ‘normal’ developer.
Footnote:
The production of Art Classic and Art Document papers in their current forms has just been discontinued, (Jan 06) due to the closure of the manufacturer of the textured paper used. New products planned for release later in 2006 using these two emulsions on a new base material. Classic Matt and Art Matt are names under consideration.
However, there are about 50 different papers suitable for Lith Kevin - some rebadged of course, but too many to list here. [ they are all in the book ;-) ]
You will be lucky to find the A.C. paper anywhere now except possibly on Ebay.
Also I just learned that the paper manufacturer for the A.C. base didn't exactly go out of business, but replaced the mat in the paper press that gave the AC texture.
Interestingly Foma have just brought out a 'Chamois' version of Fomatone MG on a cream coloured AC texture base which they must have had previous stocks of. It is made to special order only but Silverprint have good supplies. I just picked up a box of it from them. Great for Lith.
