For a holiday gift I want to make some prints with Liquid Light on artist's canvas and tone them in gold. LL strongly recommends a hardening fixer, but I'm slightly confused about when to add the hardener since I'll be toning.

What I have in mind is to develop in Dektol, no stop, fix in plain hypo (I also have TF-4 but the instructions say to avoid rapid fixers), wash very gently in cold water, then tone, then harden in potassium alum + acid, then wash again...

Does this sound right or am I totally off my nut here?
